PLANTING SEEDS of HOPE

OUR STORY

WE care about community.

Fenel and Mimi Bruna first opened House of Abraham in May 2011. What started as an intensive summer school program to get local students ready for the next school year became a vision, a seed of hope. HOA flourished into a healthy Christian community and is now sparking change in the mountain village of Jacmel, Haiti. Built on the loving gospel of Jesus Christ, HOA takes in children, who once wandered the streets in the valley below, to be nurtured with love, food, education, and truth. Now, over 8 years later, HOA continues to radiate the light of Christ’s compassion into the island community. Fenel leads by example and trains the children through local street outreach, the same model Jesus utilized for His disciples.

Yet there is much distress and despair in the lives of many Haiti. The capital is on lockdown, riots, barricades, and murder are commonplace, while inflation is higher than ever. Many have entirely lost hope that any change can emerge from such brokenness. Yet it is our mission at HOA is to share the good news that Jesus provides hope for the rebel, weary, and wounded. Despite the raging political, social, and economic chaos that ensues, it is Jesus alone who makes peace for the ultimate war that wages in our hearts — the battle between life and death. It is Jesus who gives life.

WE BELIEVE THE GOSPEL IS GOOD NEWS.

We believe the reality that the human condition is situated in sin. Because of our depravity and rebellion, a perfect and holy God must punish us (Romans 6:23). Though the human race does not function the way God designed it to, out of radical love, God made a way for redemption. God entered into the world in the form of a man, Jesus Christ, and through His life, death, and resurrection provided hope (John 3:16). Jesus never sinned, qualifying himself as the first human being ever to die and rise perfect. The Bible tells us that if we repent and believe that Jesus exchanged His perfection for our imperfection God can see us as though we never sinned (2 Corinthians 5:21). This hope is good news because it declares peace reconciling humankind to God. We live to celebrate the joy that we have in Jesus as we look forward to the day when all will be made right and we will live with God in perfection forever under His rule and reign.

HOA is A CHRISTIAN NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION COMMITTED TO GLORIFYING GOD THROUGH RADICALLY INTENTIONAL childhood DISCIPLESHIP.
